Customer Review : Great product idea, works only sporadically at the gym : Scosche IPTM myTREK - Wireless Pulse Monitor I was really excited about this device because it wouldn't require me to haul my iPhone around on my arm impacting my gym workout. A great feature, that I wasn't even aware of at time of purchase is that the red led on the arm band will start blinking when you cross into the target zone you specified, so you always know when you're doing to much. The biggest problem is that for many of my exercises the device simply starts to read improperly, for example during seated row it would suddenly report 70 bpm even though I would be much closer to 160. When I get off the machine there would be pause and suddenly the iPhone display would shoot up from 70 to 160. I gave it multiple tries over two weeks of training, with the iPhone in my pocket, clipped to my pants, around my arm, laying in front of me, the personal trainer holding it. The results were mixed and unreliable. Now if all you do is run, this may be an exceptional device, I did not try it for that purpose, but it appears that the sensor, which by the way is optical and not electrodes, may not work reliably during exercises that involve arm movements and bending. Speaking to their customer support didn't really provide any valuable feedback so the device went back to Amazon, as I do not have the time to fiddle with gadgetry that simply needs to work. I replaced it with the Wahoo ANT+ plugin and their heart rate chest strap, which has been spot on and without any hiccups, only downside is I know need to have my phone close by to see readings, so I am back to an armstrap the marware convertible works great for this.

This actually smells.. it has a factory/industrial smell.
I wiped it down with windex, soap/water, plastic cleaner, etc.. still can't shake the smell.
While it's on my wrist, I can smell it :-(

On the other non-smelling hand, it does fit my ipod nice for being under $10.
