Customer Review : Great product idea, works only sporadically at the gym : Scosche IPTM myTREK - Wireless Pulse Monitor I was really excited about this device because it wouldn't require me to haul my iPhone around on my arm impacting my gym workout. A great feature, that I wasn't even aware of at time of purchase is that the red led on the arm band will start blinking when you cross into the target zone you specified, so you always know when you're doing to much. The biggest problem is that for many of my exercises the device simply starts to read improperly, for example during seated row it would suddenly report 70 bpm even though I would be much closer to 160. When I get off the machine there would be pause and suddenly the iPhone display would shoot up from 70 to 160. I gave it multiple tries over two weeks of training, with the iPhone in my pocket, clipped to my pants, around my arm, laying in front of me, the personal trainer holding it. The results were mixed and unreliable. Now if all you do is run, this may be an exceptional device, I did not try it for that purpose, but it appears that the sensor, which by the way is optical and not electrodes, may not work reliably during exercises that involve arm movements and bending. Speaking to their customer support didn't really provide any valuable feedback so the device went back to Amazon, as I do not have the time to fiddle with gadgetry that simply needs to work. I replaced it with the Wahoo ANT+ plugin and their heart rate chest strap, which has been spot on and without any hiccups, only downside is I know need to have my phone close by to see readings, so I am back to an armstrap the marware convertible works great for this.

Better than expected : Garmin Edge 305 Bicycle GPS Navigator with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor

Took it out for my first real ride that was 5 hours total and 4 hours riding time. By the end, I had 1 bar left on the battery meter. This is a real ;problem if your into long rides like Centuries and Double Centuries. There is no way you can take this device on a 12-18 hour without it shutting off on you.

I would rate it a 5 out of 5 as a bike computer. Love the fact you can populate the fields with whichever element you choose; heart rate, speed, etc. The heart rate monitor was good as well.

It weight less than the Ciclosport HAC4 for those weight weenies who might imagine this device as a boat anchor.

The lousy battery life relegates this a toy for me however, as I really want need this device to stay on for the 12 hour+ rides.

The Garmin forerunner is a great product, on an overall level. It will only track your HR when you exercise, though, no other metrics. It will NOT track calorie output or anything else unless you have the foot pod attachment, and then it will only track it when running. I was looking for a hrm to track hr, calories, and stay within target zones but the Garmin isn't equipped to do that. If you just need a hrm, this Garmin is great, easy to use, and the chest sensor is comfortable and fits well.

This 405 user loves his new 110 : Garmin Forerunner 110 GPS-Enabled Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor (Pink)

If you have previously owned the Forerunner 305 or 405 (and are used to their features) or are a tech-savvy serious runner/racer, then the new Garmin Forerunner 110 is probably not for you.

However, if you a runner looking for a solid GPS watch without too many bells and whistles, this is a good choice. The 110 is pretty easy to use (although the manual leaves something to be desired) and avoids the problems that arose with the bevel on the 405. Just head outside, stand still while the 110 finds the satellites, hit on, run, hit off. No - it doesn't give you your current pace...just the average of the run or your last lap...but I'm guessing that the 110's features will be more than enough for many users.

For those who have hesitated to buy a Forerunner up to this point because of the size and/or ugliness of previous models (I have pretty small wrists and the other Forerunners were HUGE on me) - this Forerunner may be for you. And the women's is almost kind of cute...
